Re: Regarding Companies of the Civil War:

Johnny,

Thank you, very much... That was well explained. And that sure does
make a lot of sense, (regarding a Cavalry Soldier losing his mounted
horse(s); and later being switched to another unit or company). So
I'm assuming that was the case of my G.G.G.-Grandfather Rector Piles
who served in 3 different units: 114th Va Militia, 62nd Va. Infantry,
and 18th Va Cavalry.

Also, (not in any of my ancestor's cases): But I have noticed with
other soldiers "while looking up my ancestors" where a soldier went
(in) as a Private, and later was promoted in another company as some-
thing much higher, then demoted way back down to a Private (during
his rank out) of service. What would cause a soldier to be demoted
from a highter rank, way back down to a Private? What would they
have done, to be dishonored so severly?

Thanks again, for all your helpful information and input. I really
appreciate your time and help on this.

Take care,
Rebecca Wilson
