In the Confederate infantry, each company had two musicians, a Fifer, and a Drummer. These were full time soldiers, not youngsters especially. Additionally, at the regimental level, were a Drum Major and Fife Major overseeing the ten companies musicians.

Various tasks required teamsters, wagoners, cooks, clerks, these in turn required wagon masters, forage masters, etc. These were assigments, not ranks. As far as I know, all remained at the rank of Private.
