Robert Patton Bickley 51st Va.Infantry

What became of this soldier?..He was born at Osborn's Ford,Scott Co.,Va.(now Dungannon)Enlisted June 11,1861,at Wise Court House,Virginia as Orderly Sergeant of Co.I,then changed to Co.A,51st Va.,Infantry,General Floyd's Brigade, later General Whartons.First Captain was John P.Wolfe and second D.H.Bruce.First went out under John B Floyd;served in West Va.for awhile and then sent to Ft.Donelson where he was mortaly wounded.Shot thru left arm and the ball lodging in the left side.He was put on a boat and sent up Cumberland River, along with other wounded men,to Clarksburg,Tennessee, and was never heard of again. He was in the Battle of Sewell Mountain,Falls of the Kanawah and Ft Donelson, where he fell. There was never a braver or better soldier. He and I(Captain D.H.Bruce)were messmates. Our mess,6 of us all went into that battle, and when it was over all were killed except me.I was second sergeant at the time.Capt.Wolfe was promoted to Lt.Colonel and killed in Battle, and I was Captain the remainder of the war.In a letter from the battlefield of Big Sewell Mountain to his brother Joseph P.Bickley of Farmersville,Texas,he was laying plans for the future when he should come home, but he never came...

Obviously Sergeant Bickley was seriously wounded and sent up the river on the steamer before the surrender at Donelson and then disapears. His decendents would greatly appreciate any information.

Thank you,
