Re: Robert Patton Bickley 51st Va.Infantry

Notice my 1st post Johnny. That is from his messmate and Captain D.H.Bruce of Co.A,51st Va.He says Bickley was put on the steamer the night before the surrender and sent up the river. We know the boat stopped at Clarksville and then proceeded on to Nashville with the wounded from the battle. The wounded were then hastily put on a train and sent south with little care. Many died enroute.

Mamie Yeary who wrote the book,"Reminicences of the Boys in Gray," is a cousin of mine from Farmersville,Texas. She is also related to Robert Patton Bickley. His letters to his brother Joseph Bickley in Farmersville,Tx.survived the War.
