Re: prison camps around brandy station

His service record file, is found under the name of Jerry W. Fairburn for whom no record was found under that name, see this reply from the War Department's Office of the Adjutant General, dated January 15, 1915:

"Respectfully returned to the

"President, Louisiana Pension Commissioners, Baton Rouge.

"The name Jerry W. Fairburn has not been found on the rolls, on file this office of Company D or any other company of the 7th Reg't Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A., and no record of service has been found of service or parole of a man of this name and regiment."

A later card reads:

"To All Whom it May Concern

"The bearer hereof Jermiah Fairburn a member of Capt Jordons Company [D] Col. Ashbys Regiment of Cavalry aged 18 years, 6 feet high, Ruddy Complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by profession a Farmer, born in the County of Shenadoah, State of Virginia, and enlisted at Washington in the County of Shenandoah, State of Virginia, and enlisted at Washington in the County of Shenandoah, on the 6th April 1862 to serve for the period of 2 years & 9 months or the War.

"Given under my hand at Washington This 7 April 1862

Commanding Cavalry"

Company D, Record of Events, bi monthly muster rolls for:

Nov & Dec, 1861, station not stated
Nov & Dec, 1862 located at New Market
April 1, 1864 located at Flowing Springs, Va
April 30, 1864 located at Waynesboro
December 1864, station not stated

M324: Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of Virginia

Based on the document signed by Col. Ashby, he enlisted in April, 1862, the next bi-monthly muster roll would have been taken for the period May & June, 1862. This muster roll did not survive to be recorded in the Compiled Service Records. The next surviving muster roll was for the period Nov & Dec, 1862 which would have been held at the end of the year, or shortly thereafter. He was not recorded on this roll or any of the latter three surviving muster rolls. This leads one to believe that he must have been dropped from the rolls before the end of 1862. Any number of reasons could be given, such as: discharge, desertion, death, capture, etc. The latter is not likely as no Federal POW records exist in his name.

Does he give any other proof of service in his Pension application? Does he have proof of service given by other soldiers of this regiment? Was he granted a pension?
