Re: 5th virginia regiment company L

Kathy Your best sorce of information is Lee A Wallace"s book 5TH Virgina infantry. In it it states that James was in co. L ( Staunton) and was captured May 12 1864 Spotsylvania, and exchanged September 30 1864 and as held in hospital at both Staunton and then to Richmond from Oct 15 1864 on. Mean while Jacob entered at( sangerville) in co.I and seamed to have health problems resulting in his discharge Aug 11 1862. Enlisting is when you sign up for service. mustering is when you are formaly swoarn in for service. This for both of the gentelmen was done by Thomas Stonewall Jackson him self. My GGgrand father Thomas J Grayson. enlisted and served in co. I as Jacob. Thomas E Freeman.
