"On May 22 the Putnam County Border Riflemen of Captain Andrew Russell Barbee arrived in camp and were mustered into service. Barbee, a practicing phyiscian [sic] from Poca Bottom, claimed that the entire company, including himself, opposed secession but decided to remain loyal to Virginia."
