If you would like to read more about the uniforms of Mosby's men, I recommend Reminiscences of a Mosby Guerilla by John Munson. He talks about buying cloth for his own uniform and about the "dandies" of Company D, who especially liked to dress in uniforms of the richest cloth. Since Mosby's Rangers were an independent command and therefore entitled to the "loot" that they captured, they could afford to buy nice uniforms.
