John Munson wrote in his book about wearing a uniform made out of such cloth when he visited Lee's headquarters. He noted that his uniform had lace and gold bullion as well and the comparison he made as a lowly private soldier so outfitted among Lee's threadbare officers brought home to him the difference between serving with the regulars and with Mosby.
