Lt. Thomas J. Durvin 16th U.S. Infantry

On ancestry.com I found several military records for a Lt. Thomas J. Durvin. In the "Returns from Military Posts, 1806-1916" he is listed under the Fort Garland New Mexico, Colorado Territory, as being in the 16th Infantry, temporarily detached to the 2nd Cavalry since Oct. 1861. There are returns dated from Oct. 1861 to July 1862 saying the same thing. In "U. S. Returns from Regular Army Infantry Regiments 1821-1916" for the 16th Regular Infantry he is listed as 'missing in action since Sept. 19, 1863'. I cannot find him listed in the National Parks Soldiers & Sailors System. I would appreciate any information on Thomas J. Durvin (sometimes listed as Dervin) - what happened to him, where was he from, etc.? Thanks in advance.
