Battle of Bull Run/Manassas ;John DYNAN

Hello,
I'm looking for ways to find out about an ancestor John Dynan born abt 1806-12 Ireland, who died during one of the Battles of Bull Run/Manassas so between 1861-3. He entered New York in 1850 on the ship 'Lady Franklin' from Liverpool and was, I believe, living in New York prior to his joining up. He was a Tailor by profession in England but I'm not sure he worked as such in the US.
After his death his uniform was returned to his wife 'Ann' and family in England and I believe it had silver buttons and had money in the pockets that was ' considered useless ' and so this was burnt, I was also told that later that money would have been honoured but by then it had been used for 'heating'!! Presumably this means he was on the defeated side, however the family believed he had fought for the opposite side so was surprised by his uniform! Sadly when money was short for his Widow and children they had to sell the silver buttons so I do not know what they or the uniform looked like.
I have tried for years to find out more about John DYNAN/Dinan with no success and then a kind lady told me about this website, if anyone could help me to find out more about John and especially his parents details or place of birth...anything really..I'd be really delighted and grateful. Thank you for reading and best wishes.
