Here's what I have on Gibson R. Bowles

BOWLES, GIBSON R.: Sgt., Co. F. Born Henry County. 1860 cen., age 20, laborer, Dyer's Store P.O., Henry County. Joined F/42nd Va. 5/24/61 in Henry County. Enl., Pvt., 6/22/61 in Henry County. Present in unit 10/31/61, 12/6/61, 12/31/61 and 2/28/62. Hospitalized, sick, Winchester by 3/1/62. Promoted 4th Sgt. 4/21/62. Present in unit 6/30/62, 10/31/62 and 1/1/63. MWIA, neck and face, 7/2-3/63 Gettysburg, Pa. Captured 7/5/63 Boonsboro, Md. Hospitalized Frederick, Md., 7/6/63. There, external carotid artery hemorrhaged 7/9/63; operated on to repair hemorrhage 7/10/63, but died 7/13/63, age 22, of gunshot wound and secondary hemorrhage of carotid artery. Buried 7/14/63 Mt. Olivet Hospital Cem., Frederick, grave 205. Personnel effects included $2 in U.S. currency, $1 CSA currency, $3 on Manhattan Bank, Ohio, and 5 cents in silver. Effects auctioned off for $4.05 at USA General Hospital, Frederick, Md., 9/12/65. His skull is Specimen #2494 in the collection of the National Museum of Health and Medicine, Otis Historical Archives, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Washington, D.C.
