Thank you so much for the information. I initially found his name in a small grey book entitled the 51 VA INF. It seemed to be a series about all of the Virginia units. I do know her pension was approved which leads me to believe he did serve. Being a military man I know that if Field Artillery units were depleted they would have been replaced. I wonder if he was pulled from the 51st sometime late in the war to fill Rive's Battery? If they disbanded that close to Appomattox then he would have only been a few miles from home. He could have walked there in a day. I wish I could have a list of Rive's Battery on that day they disbanded. I"m just still stumped why he would list 51st officers and use Rive's men as wittnesses. Confusing.
