I recently found that my 2nd ggrandfather, Samuel Gochenour b 1826 Fairview VA d 1901 was in the VA militia. I am now interested to learn more about his service. His grandfather Jacob, immigrant, was an Swiss Anabaptist so it is interesting how quickly the religious pacifism was left behind. Jacob was not involved in the Revolutionary War due to religious beliefs. Would Samuel, by then a Baptist, have had a choice in serving or not? How could I learn about what his role was in the war? Thanks.
