Benjamin F. Durvin, age 40, Private, Capt. Henry Fitzgerald's Company, Ordnance Department Volunteers, joined for duty and enrolled June 17, 1863 at Carbine Factory at Richmond by Capt. H. Fitzgerald for "Residence in the city," last recorded as 3rd Sergeant on the January 19, 1865 muster roll, presence was not stated, but under remarks: "Detailed C. S. Armory," no further records

Note: The company was stationed at Chaffins Farm December 1, 1864 through January 19, 1865. There are no subsequent surviving company muster rolls

This company subsequently became Company D, 1st Battalion Virginia Infantry, Local Defense Troops.

The 1st Battalion Virginia Infantry, Local Defense Troops, (also known as the Ordnance Battalion and as the Armory Battalion) was organized May 28, 1863, of employes in the Ordnance Department, and mustered into C. S. service June 15, 1863, for Local Defense and Special Service, exclusively for the defense of Richmond and vicinity, for the term of residence in that city.
