Louis Daniel Hilliard

I am trying to identify Louis D. Hilliard's unit. His papers are on file at the Library of Richmond in Virginia. He attended the 50th reunion at Gettysburg and noted that he served in the same artillery battalion as J. Thompson Brown. Brown started with the Salem Artillery, which later became part of Willis J. Dance's reserve battalion, consisting of five Virginia batteries. Brown advanced to become the Second Corps artillery chief at Gettysburg and he also attended the 50th reunion. Hilliard mentions that the iron marker to his battery marked the position exactly where the guns stood, which is not always the case. Incidentally Hilliard also mentions seeing his old comrade Tommy Thurston of Company C, 55th Virginia, at the 50th reunion. Thurston was the only one from his company to attend that reunion.
