Samuel Buchanan of 48th Virginia

The Clark-Buchanan Family Letters 1862-1864 are on microfilm at the Library of Virginia in Richmond, which includes letters from Samuel T. Buchanan of Company D, 48th Virginia. His letter of 9 July 1863 to his sister describes the battle of Gettysburg. This letter also resides in the Pearce Civil War Collection at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. He wrote another letter dated 30 August 1863 to his brother Tom, from Camp Montpelier in Orange County, Virginia. In the latter letter, Buchanan mentions that Captain Greever and his mother were there in camp, and later that evening Buchanan planned to attend a prayer meeting led by Mr. Lacy at General Jones's Headquarters. Buchanan also mentions that "Dale" in his company found two or three dozen knives in Pennsylvania and gave him two; one of these had a spoon and fork attached to it. Can Dale be further identified?
