Re: Jonathan Pack, 50th Virginia Infantry

John Pack was named as having been seriously wounded at Chancellorsville in a letter written by Henry A. Hefflefinger, K/50Va, on 12 May 1863 to Dear Friend [Delilah P. Jessup]. Hefflefinger was telling Jessup "something about the fight" in which "they was a heavy loss on both Sids[.]" The letter includes the names of the men killed and wounded from K/50th Va. Such letters were one means the families at home had of learning the fate of loved ones. The original letter can be found in the Henry A. Hefflefinger Civil War Letters, 1862-1863, Accession 13257, Special Collections, University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
