Re: Ft Gaines Alabama Cemetery?

This is an interesting subject for me. Dauphin Island is supposed to be covered with graves. Over the last several hundred years many different armies have occupied the island. I have read that there are quite a few British soldiers from the Battle of New Orleans buried somewhere on the island. They died from their wounds after the British defeat there. The British Navy came to Dauphin Island on their second and seccessful attempt to capture Ft. Bowyer, where Ft. Morgan is today.

There is also a chance he was not buried there at all. Ship traffic between the Island and Mobile was heavy at that time. He may have been buried on the mainland or even sent home. I have read of many soldiers dying hundreds of miles away and their bodies sent back home, this of course was early in the Civil War.
