Yes David I agree it is an intresting mystery.I have not ruled out any possibility yet. I did find one other man from his batallion that died five days prior at the Ft. All others were at Barlows Mill which must have been a large campsite. It is located SW of Mobile at the river crossing between St Elmo and Theodore. According to the history, the majority of the men had measles so they built a two story camp hospital there for each batallion. I have not ruled out the possibility that he was sent home to St Clair co.since I also have not found his widows gravesite.
