I don't understand the Navy's attitude with regard to the Tecumseh being a grave. After all, there were nine fellows in the Hunley, and that didn't keep it from being raised.

I can see that it would be a major undertaking to raise the Tecumseh but not any more of an undertaking than raising the Russian sub the Kurst, which is being attempted as I type this.

I guess the reason I asked the original question about the Tecumseh is the fact that it is in much better condition than the Monitor and would probably survive being raised much better.

I have been to Vicksburg and have seen the U.S.S. Cairo,and I greatly enjoyed seeing and walking around inside her. I think the Tecumseh could be preserved in the same manner, and could provide many people a chance to see a rear Civil War monitor.
