Capt. James White's Cavalry and/or Co. K, 15th Con

This weekend while trying to transcribe some old (Dec. 1984) notes on Choctaw Co., AL pension applications, I came across a reference to a deceased soldier having served as a Corp. in Capt. White's Co. of Marengo Regt of Alabama Cavalry.

I wrote to a White researcher with Marengo Co., AL ties. He had no idea who the Capt. White would be, nor did he know anything about the referenced unit. But he would like to know.

Found in the archived messages here that a Capt.James White had a Cavalry unit which was raised in Washington and Choctaw Co. Also read that Capt. White resigned saying he was overaged, overweight, and had a large plantation to attend to. Plus I read several of the other messages regarding this unit, Murphy's Battalion, and Co. K, 15th
Confederate Cavalry.

Questions:
1) Is it known what county Capt. James White was a resident of in 1860? Located a possible candidate in Washington Co.
in 1860.
2) Does anyone know whether the reference in the pension regarding Marengo Co. might be a reference to the Capt. White previously discussed on this board?

Had previously found a pension application for a widow who stated her husband had served in Co. K of the 15th Regiment Cavalry Volunteers. The words "Regiment" and "Volunteers" were printed on the form, but the word "Cavalry" was written. So, I am presently thinking all of this ties together in a strange sort of way.

Could not locate any Muster Roll for this Co. K, 15th Confed. Cav., so contacted a person named Wayne Jones who referenced the following URL:
http://www.geocities.com/coh41/15thAlCav.html
Co. K soldiers are listed, but not many.

Have now run across a 2nd and 3rd widow saying their husbands served in Co. K, 15 Regt Confed Cavalry. And there
may be more.

Final question, am I inferring correctly in that there is most likely no way to verify these soldiers' service if their names do not appear on the muster rolls? Got the impression Capt. White's unit didn't use much military protocol or was that Murphy's Battalion or both?

Would appreciate any assistance.
