Re: Capt. Breedlove's Co., 34 Alabama Infantry

To answer your questions, some of this company's records appear with the 34th Alabama as Breedlove's Company. However, it was assigned to the 45th Alabama within a few weeks and served with that regiment. Here are my notes on that company and its captains:

Company “H” of Macon County

Ephraim B. Breedlove. Elected Major May 19, 1862.

Robert Haden Abercrombie. Promoted Captain May 19, 1862. Appointed Major July 10, 1863, to rank March 25, 1863.

Thomas H. Smith. Promoted Captain [May 27,] 1863, to rank March 25, 1863. Wounded near Atlanta, Georgia, July 22, 1864; died of wounds on August 14, 1864.

John E. Jones. Promoted Captain August 25, 1864, to rank August 14, 1864. [Wounded near Spring Hill, Tennessee, November 29, 1864.] Appointed Captain of Company “C”, consolidated 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment, April 9, 1865. Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, May 1, 1865.

This company organized at Tuskegee, Alabama, March 1, 1862, and was accepted in state service the same day. Officers and men mustered at Loachapoka, Alabama, April 3, 1862.

Unless you discover something in the record which leads you to believe otherwise, I would regard the records that you mention as referring to the same man.
