Checked the listings for the regiment and did NOT find your man. There are two HANKINS listed in Co. "H" (in Broadfoot's Roster of Confederate Soldiers), but no William Albert. These are Joel and W. B. HANKINS.

Also listed are two HAUKINS, which I would be willing to bet are misspellings of HANKINS, a 2nd Lt. H. M., and a Jacob HAUKINS.

Other than that, there is a W. M. HAWKINS in Co. "I", and a William HAWKINS, with no company indicated, in the 5th Cavalry.

These are all the names I could find that might be possible matches. You might check and see if your William Albert HANKINS had relatives with names similar to those above. Relatives often joined the same units, and it is possible that your William Albert might have been "misplaced" in the listings. Finding a close relative in Co. "H" would be an indication of possible enlistment there.

Incidentally, there were no other William Albert, William A., or W. A. HANKINS listing in Alabama units that I could find.
