"There are two men on the roll who are indexed as Hankins. These are Joel and William B. Hankins of Co. H. However, they match entries on the 1860 census of Fayette County. These are for Joel Hawkins, age 23, and Barton (William B.) Hawkins, age 15, both on page 302."

It seems to me that it is very possible that William Albert Hankins and William Barton Hankins/Hawkins are the same person. The names are just too close to not investigate this possibility further. I think that there is a good possibility that the middle name could have actually been "Alburton" or some variation of that spelling. While not a real common name, I have come across several men by that name during the Civil War period.
