Parole Records

As a soldier was paroled, a record was generated from the Union Forces, For example-----in searching for an individual's CSR , found a copy in his records. If in all the soldier's paroles, what happened to these records--and why aren't they included in each Individual's record who was Paroled? Did the Union keep copies or was the original given to the soldier when he was paroled and he presented it to someone which kept the record and somehow it was included in his CSR records? When we research an individual's record, many times it says he was "paroled " at such and such location but the actual parole record from the Union is not included. This Union record includes the Individual's Height, Hair color, Eye color, and Complexion. Where did these Union records wind Up? Also found from the CSR records of my ggrandfather's 1st cousin where he signed a record that he wouldn't fight against the union after being captured at the battle of Vicksburg but later saw him still going strong in fighting for the CSR! What about these records?
