I certainly hope anyone guilty of destruction in this cemetery was prosecuted.

Historic cemeteries in Alabama are looted and/or vandalized more often than we realize. For instance, when Tannehill State Park was created a number of years ago, state employees moved markers from the Green family cemetery in nearby Green Pond to the park. I believe one marker was for a Revolutionary War veteran. They had permission to move the Kimbrell Methodist Church building to the park, and I suppose someone decided the church would look better if it had a cemetery. Guess it didn't matter how or where the markers were acquired.
