I'm sure that you are correct that some of the guns that were showing on the ordnance reports were the Maynards. However, there is also a design of front-loader called a "Southern Mountain Rifle" which used the .37 Cal. Undoubtedly, some of these were being used by Confederates. This is different that a "Squirrel Rifle". Squirrel Rifles were traditionally .36 Cal. I'm not sure how the intended use differed, though, and how .01 of a caliber would have made a difference.
