This was actually Capt. Newton Jasper Benson's "Mississippi Devils" of Panola County MS. Wm. H. Pou appears as an enlisted man, not an officer and certainly not a general. Officers and men captured at Island Ten were released for exchange a few months later (September 1862). Pou shows subsequent service in the 54th Alabama Regiment, a command organized from survivors of the "Mississippi Devils" and other companies captured at Island Ten.
