Hi,

There's probably confusion with Abner Pickett (1790 SC - 1850 AL) and Richard Abner Pickett

Richard Abner Pickett was born March 18, 1845 in Macon County AL, the son of George P.H. Pickett and Sarah B Kirkland. He was the grandson of Abner Piggott and Susannah. Apparently, George P H did not like the family name and changed it from Piggot to Pickett. The family moved from Macon County to Pike County by 1850 and to Barbour County by 1866.

On April 29, 1864, Richard Abner married Sarah A. Butts Floyd, daughter of Charles Butts and Louisa, and widow of Joseph H. Fioyd, a casualty of the War for Southern Independence. He had been a private in Co A of the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment was killed in battle on July 31, 1862.

Richard Abner enlisted as a private in Company D of the 63rd Alabama Infantry, C.S.A.. on July 30. 1864. at age 19. He was described as having blue eyes, light hair, florid complexion, and being 5' 8" tall.

His older brothers, George P.H., Jr.. and Thomas H.had already enlisted in the Confederate service. George served in Co. B of the 39th Alabama Infantry and Thomas H.served in Co. I of the 1st Regiment of Alabama Conscripts and in Co. A of the 61st
