Re: Choctaw Bluff, AL (Ft Stonewall)

Vivian, Vines was sent to help build the log fort and was killed by a team of horses pulling the logs. Most likely he is buried on the grounds because his mangled body was not returned home. But there never was a cemetery there. The only other Civil War soldier buried on the private property is a northerner who once owned the property, making Vines perhaps the only Confederate soldier buried on the grounds. The Mobile Genealogical Society is preparing to publish an article written by Dr. Joe Davis about the fort and the death of Vines in a forthcoming issue of DEEP SOUTH JOURNAL. Joe has visited the grounds and has done extensive research on the fort. Contact him at drjed3@yahoo.com.
