Bill, in roughly 20 years of researching the 37th Alabama, I can't recall ever finding a reference to this regiment being considered sharpshooters, or even containing a company of sharpshooters for that matter.

That said, the 37th Alabama was in fact deployed at the Hatchie Bridge as part of the rearguard covering the Confederate retreat from Second Corinth. Incidentally, this same unit was in the vanguard of the Confederate approach (the old "first in, last out" process). The 37th Alabama was also called upon to fill a similar role to cover the overnight Confederate withdrawl from Lookout Mountain at Chattanooga (where it served alongside another of your suspect regiments, Moore's 2nd TX). But, in this latter engagement the unit was anything but well-equipped for the job with antique weapons that had been condemned by the War Department as utterly unfit for service.

So, to Alan Pitts' previous points and definition, I can't say with certainty that this unit was not tactically utilized as such, although never officially documented or titled "sharpshooters" (at least as far as I have ever located).
