No other records from Alabama that I could see. A James Shegog was in Co. B 40th Tenn, subsequently Walker's 5th Confederate Infantry, but I believe that company was from Kentucky. B. F. Cheatham was a Captain commanding Company E, 1st Tenn. Inf. in the Mexican War. I do not see anyone by the name of Shegog in that unit. Obituaries, like the census, can contain errors.
