The Confederate cemetery in LaGrange, Ga. is also in an area that is totally black, I have never seen any damage done to anything there. Except the flag was old and torn, but one phone call and the flag was replaced. I do not think it is a black isssue in most areas, just an issue with alot of misinformed people black and white. When l posted "or down a long forgotten dirt road" I was serious, there is a old logging road just a few miles from my house, 4 or 5 miles down that road there was a family homeplace. Charles Ridley and his brother-in-law, both confederate veterans, are buried there along with their wives and children. The markers were tall and very old, but in good condition until some one, probably teenagers found the graves and destroyed the head stones. Someone else came along and spent a lot of time and effort repairing the stones. So maybe for every vandal out there, there is at least one good samaritan. It just makes me sick to see this kind of damage, in any cemetery, but when it comes to Confederate veterans graves, this makes me MAD! But again, what can we do??? Nobody takes it seriously except desendants of those veterans especially the SCV and UDC. We never have had an issue with people taking the Confederate flags off graves in this area, and the only grave destruction (other than that caused by age) has been the graves I just mentioned. But l have seen it in other areas, it is a shame!!
