The following is information concerning Thomas J. Thomaston, Private, Company K, who was among those wounded above:
Was severely wounded in action in October 1864 near Petersburg while charging a Federal battery. The shell that wounded him killed seven and wounded thirteen in his company. (Confederate Veteran Magazine, Volume XXXVI, 1928, page 426.)
Admitted to Alabama Hospital, Richmond, Virginia on October 29, 1864, gunshot wound middle third of left leg (shell). Present at Hospital through January 1865. (National Archives: Prescription Book, Alabama Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, 1864-65 , Chapter VI. Volume 425.)
This indicates that at least 5 companies of the 14th Alabama appear to have been engaged during the battle. And if the Confederate Veteran article can be believed, there were 19 other casualties in Company K.
