George --

For future reference all companies of this regiment originally included both junior and senior reserves. When rolls were submitted to the War Department, instructions were returned to comb out the boys and assign them to junior reserve companies. They were transferred to the 2nd Alabama Reserves. All those left on roll were senior reserves, expected to be ages 45-50.

In February 1865 both senior reserve regiments (3rd and 4th Alabama Reserves) went to Montgomery AL. When the city was threatened, they went by rail to Columbus GA. Both regiments dispersed when that city fell in the last major land battle east of the Mississippi River, Easter Sunday, Apr 16, 1865. They were not part of Richard Taylor's army which received paroles in west Alabama/east Mississippi during May 1865.
