Having been admitted to hospital October 29, reason unknown, he most likely was released on furlough, say for 30 days on or about December 1. He had not reported back by December 31. He may have overstayed his furlough, reporting back, say February 1. He may have been subject to Court Martial March 10, 1862, either for desertion, or for being Absent without leave. This is only one possible scenario I can envision. His hospital records did not survive to be recorded in the records.
