One more query on this scenario. During the 30 day furlough, where would he have most likely spent his time? It does not seem too likely to me that he was able to make it back home to Alabama, although that could account for why he would have been late returning. Did most soldiers on furlough always find a way home or did they spend the time elsewhere? Thanks again
