His records do not indicate a date of death. They simply state "Died from wounds incurred at Chickamauga Sept. 19, 1863." If his death occurred on or near the battlefield, perhaps in a field hospital, he would likely have been buried on the battlefield. After the war, the Confederate dead from Chickamauga were reinterred at the Marietta Confederate Cemetery. Over 3000 Confederate dead from several battles were buried there. At first, wooden markers were used to mark the graves, and names, if known, were on those markers. Over time, these deteriorated and the majority of names were lost to time. Those from Alabama whose names are known are listed on the following link. There are no names from the 44th listed there.
