Best information on the subject comes from the company commander. At the end of 1864, a roll of all men who belonged to this company produced for the State of Alabama. Since this record did not originate with the Confederate government and was not in Richmond when the war ended, it's not included with captured Confederate records at the National Archives. For this soldier, the company commander wrote that he died near Montgomery. That's based on best information available to him.

You mentioned Snow Hill, the soldier's place of enlistment. It wouldn't make sense for death to have occured there.
