Alabama Chaplains mid-1863

Welcome additional information on chaplains in the Army of Northern Virginia circa summer 1863. At a meeting of Third Corps chaplains on 25 April 1863, some admitted carrying muskets into battle, but the preferred duty locations were either with the ambulances, at the field hospitals, or where the litter bearers met the ambulances.

13 - Thomas H. Howle. Only chaplain in Archer's brigade as of 14 April 1863. ADAH records indicate he served as Chaplain from 10 July 1862 until 10 June 1863, when he joined the ranks of Company D as a private. He was captured on 1 July 1863 at Gettysburg along with many of his brigade.
5 Battalion -

8 - William Elbert Massey (Baptist). Present at Chancellorsville, but absent sick at Gettysburg.
9 - Moses L. Whitten (Methodist Episcopal). Left behind to attend to wounded at Gettysburg and captured.
10 - J. J. D. Renfroe (Baptist). Present throughout the Gettysburg campaign.

14 - Augustus Goodwin Raines (Baptist). Left behind to attend to wounded at Gettysburg and captured.

6 - George R. Talley (Methodist). Arrived mid-August 1863 at Orange Court House.
12 - Henry D. Moore. Arrived circa August 1863 at Orange Court House.
26 - William E. Cameron. Only chaplain in brigade as of 14 April 1863.

Law's brigade (4, 15, 44, 47 and 48) not known for certain. Blackford Price, Jr. was possibly present with the 48th.
