Rodes at Chancellorsville

Miles Krisman, I need your help. When Rodes moved to the left at Chancellorsville, Josephus Hall commanded the 5th Ala. Do you know its position when the attack was made? Presently, we are in a little debate in Monroe and Conecuh counties because a local historian claimed that a man from Conecuh fired the mortal round that struck Stonewall Jackson. The historian published his claim in a local history book and now, a newspaperman who is a SCV member has questioned the statement. Unless the man was in T.M. Riley's Co. of the 5th (Monroe), there were no Conecuh men near. As you and everyone else probably knows, the offending regiment was likely the 18th NC under James Lane, later a professor at the Male College of East Alabama....later Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, later API, and today Auburn University. In countless SCV programs, the story has always been that Rodes was moving from the assault to the rear when he encountered Jackson before the ill-fated sortie moved forward led by a young Virginian from the neighborhood.. Rodes was then being replaced by men from A.P. Hill's Division. To counter the multitude of claims coming forth, would you share the location of Riley's company at the initial assault and at the end if you know. I read Rodes report but it is not clear despite acknowledging the efforts of Hall among others.
