Further to my post regarding the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Chancellorsville, I realized that your local historian is referring to a man in the 5th Alabama Infantry Battalion. This command was in General A. P. Hill's Division and would have been in the front line on the evening of May 2, 1863. The two Alabama outfits are often mistaken for each other or as being one and the same, but they're not.

The 5th Alabama Infantry Battalion was also the unit that initially engaged Federal troops outside of Gettysburg and brought on the subsequent battle.

If possible, I would be interested to see what your local historian has come up with regarding the wounding of Stonewall Jackson. Is a online link available?
