SCV meeting tonight....we pulled out the T.M. Riley report # 373 and Rodes report # 368. (OR Series 1, XXV/I, S#39) Riley describes the actions of the 5th on May 3rd on page 938. Rodes description is on pg. 944. Riley took command of the regiment after Renfro was mortally wounded. The versions are basically the same but for one fact, Rodes describes the loss of the 26th and 5th flags while Riley does not mention it. I'll post Riley's version in another message. Us ol' country boys are confused. Thanks for all your help...the excerpts are wonderful reading.
