Bob, where did your Alexander Russell live when the war started? In most cases, men tended to enlist in companies organized closest to where they lived.

There was another Alexander Russell who served in the 11th Arkansas Infantry. This man enlisted in Co. K at Benton, Arkansas, on November 30, 1861, for twelve months. He was absent (probably on sick furlough) when the regiment was captured on April 8, 1862; so he joined the 2nd Arkansas Infantry on May 25, 1862, and was appointed second lieutenant of Co. E. He resigned from the service on November 5, 1862. I don't know his age or nativity.

His original company was recruited in Saline County, Arkansas.

Anthony Rushing might be able to help with this man. He's the resident expert on the 11th Arkansas Regiment, as well as other commands recruited in Saline County.
