Re: Port Hudson Prisoners
In Response To: Re: Port Hudson Prisoners ()

Hi Art,

This question is not specifically "Arkansas"; however, since Arkansas soldiers were included in the surrender of Joe Johnston's troops at the Bennett House, I'm posting this question to you here.

There is an outstanding Company history for the "Campbell Salt Spring Guards", Company K of the 41st GA Infantry CS at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacampbe/Company_K_History.htm . If you visit the site and scroll down near the bottom, you'll see a section entitled "Aftermath" and then "Appendix". In this section the documented casualties of the company and a final listing of those surrendered at Greensboro, NC is included. I'm curious as to where the author, a Mitchell Kelley, accumulated this information. Are there surrender rolls for the Greensboro surrender at the NARA or LOC? I've never seen a compilation of the men surrendered in NC. Does such a compilation exist?

I've attempted to contact Mr. Kelley in the past, but have received no response.

Thanks,

Jim
