Re: Letter: Pursuit of Sterling Price

Hello.
I would assume Virginia as he was a Virginia native. I do not really remember at this time. I know Sterling Price went to Missouri as a young man having a great career there and even out west as the territorial governor of New Mexico. He was against Missouri leaving the Union but went with his people just like Robert E. Lee.
I had contact with one of those Virigina Prices once. The man said the family had been there for over 400 years. Many had left and gone west, but his set had stayed. My Price bunch had swung into South Carolina in the 1700's and then around about the early 1830's left the Spartanburg Dist. going into Alabama for two years. They then left and came to Arkansas in 1836 floating the White River into what became White Co.
Nearly all of the Prices and their connections fought with either the 36th Arkansas or rode with the 1st Arkansas CSA Cav. I say that because I just learned of another who said he served but could not prove it, which in my mind, means the 1st Arkansas as there were no records.
I was saddened to learn that where I believe many of those early Price pioneers of White County as well as CSA veterans were buried has been covered over by a pond if you can believe that.
I learned that just yesterday. I was told there were over 200 graves there. Of course it was Reconstruction time and there was no money for anything much less marking graves.
I thought such as that was against the nowdays law.
After the Civil War, many people named their children in honor of those they admired so I would imagine your thinking is correct.
If you think you tie to my Price connections, feel free to write me at MissLata@sbcglobal.net. I may have some stuff you find interesting.
