You are correct that they did take part in some actions east of the Mississippi and that is a possibility. I am just not that up to date of things on that side of the river.

It is just that I had noted from Major Baker's letter that he mentions having 4 guns when in most of the later reports mention only 3 guns. I believe that these 3 guns of the 1st Indiana Cav Battery, along with the three remaining 12 pd Mountain Howitzers of the 5th Kansas cavalry were transferred to Battery "H" of the 2nd US Colored Light Artillery in Pine Bluff at the end of the war. When these troops went home.
