The steel guns were ordered from Pine Bluff to Little Rock in early January, 1865. The 2-company remnant First Indiana Cavalry was NOT a "veteran" unit; to qualify as such the original organization had to have a 75% reenlistment rate (G.O. 191, ser. 1863), soon reduced to 50% (G.O. 216). I have found no evidence that Wm. B. Baker ever achieved his ambition of becoming a Major in another regiment; his rank as Battalion Adjutant in the First Indiana was that of 2d-Lt. I'm not sure, but I think Baker was given a job in the Indiana Adjutant General's office, perhaps another reason to believe he was related to Nathan Baker>.
