The published 1863-1866 diary (edited by Dr Carl Moneyhon) of Virginia Davis GRAY relates to many troops passing and camping around Princeton where she and hubby settled in fall 1860 from Holly Springs, MS.

Princeton is also where Col/Sen Solon BORLAND moved from Little Rock before leaving for Harris county Texas where he died 1 Jan 1864, leaving funds with Wm T M HOLMES (Co A, 3rd Ark Cav) widow to care for his daughters, poetess Fanny Green BORLAND, authoress of "The Dead Confederacy" and other poems, with younger sister "Mollie", who as a widow in 1889 became second wife of Virginia's husband, Oliver Crosby GRAY.
